F.A.Q.

1 Question: What is OTA?

The O.T.A - Oval Trumpet Air-box device is the new high performance air intake and filtration kit from BMC, designed and produced entirely in house and certified by the BMC Racing Division - Special Filters - that deal with the development of air filters for Racing: F1/MotoGP/WSBK/DTM/LE MANS SERIES/FIAGT.

This high level of know-how has enabled the creation of the new O.T.A device with first class records and results. The principal innovative characteristics are:

A) High filtration efficiency with reduction of load losses. Maximum passage of air with the guarantee of maximum retention of air impurities.
B) Elevated thermal isolation from heat sources of heat through a carbon air-box.
C) Oval air-box shape developed to allow high installation versatility of the device.
D) Oval Trumpet: A researched and developed internal formula for the channelling, carriage and increase of air through the introduction of the revolutionary system of air carriage called “Trumpet.” The “Trumpet”, placed inside the O.T.A device, on the air exit side, allows an increase in the quality of air introduced to the engine making use of the effects of dynamic carriage provided by its particular shape. This limits the loss of pressure along the air line of the engine, making the most of the dynamic pressure potential of the air produced by the speed of the vehicle in movement.
E) The air-box fitting system ensures maximum sealing of its components, guaranteeing the maintenance of device pressure at all times. This translates, in consequence, to an increase in torque (NM;) and engine horsepower (HP) across the entire arc of engine use.

2 Question: How can I regenerate an OTA filter?

We strongly advise regenerating the OTA filter using the original BMC washing Kit; the kit contains detergent and oil dispenser (spray or with batcher).
We advise regeneration every 15000 km to guarantee long lasting performance and duration. This value can change based on the environmental conditions the car is used in (e.g. non tarred roads, presence of pollen, dust,…).
The stages for correct filter washing and oiling are specifically indicated in instructions inside the pack.

3 Question: Is OTA easy to install?

All BMC filters are sold with assembly instructions and all accessories needed to make assembly easy and fast.
The OTA lets the propulsor breathe thick, fresh air, rich in comburant oxygen, unlike a traditional air filter.
By mounting an air intake on a specifically favourable point of the car bonnet you can increase the speed of the air crossing the airbox considerably, with an advantage in the increase of fresh air capacity towards the engine.

ATTENTION: to be fitted only by professional technician.

4 Question: Do you get better vehicle performance by installing OTA?

High filtration efficiency and reduced power loss. Maximum air flow and assured filtration of the air from impurity. Besides its oval shape offering versatility in application, OTA system is equipped with a device called “Trumpet”, placed inside the OTA system on the air outlet side, which allows to further increase the quantity of air to the engine: it benefits the dynamic conveyance given by its shape.
This solution limits the pressure drop along the aspiration line of the engine, maximizing the potential of the dynamic pressure deriving from the speed of the car. This air box has a sealing system suitable to guarantee the best seal between its components, such ensuring the pressure tight of this device at any rpm (+HP/NM).

5 Question: When you mount OTA do you need to re-program the ECU?

Mounting the OTA does not necessarily mean reprogramming the electronic gearcase (new generation gearcases generally adjust work parameters automatically).
However, it is true that as the amount of comburant oxygen increases the engine needs more fuel to burn. So to exploit OTA 100% you need to re-map the gearcase. In any case, installation should be done by professional electronic technician (ECU-tech).

6 Question: I would like to buy one of your OTA filter. I would like to know whether there are any counter indications as the car is new and still in guarantee and whether it can cause any problems to the flow gauge:
There are no counter indications for mounting the OTA on any new car or on one that is a few years old with a certain number of kilometres.
If the car is new the guarantee does not lose validity as OTA can be dismantled and the original airbox reinstalled

7 Question: OTA not original? Check how to find out!
Before buying a OTA®, if you’re not sure about who’s selling or simply where the item comes from, use these simple control techniques to see where your OTA® comes from. The first and only product in the sector, with patent and deposited trade mark. The 4 things you can do are:
Check that the trade mark BMC is visible inside the carbon cylinder, printed directly in the treated carbon itself, saying “Patented System”.

1 – Check that the trade mark BMC is visible inside the carbon cylinder, printed directly in the treated carbon itself, saying “Patented System”.
2 – Check that the trade mark BMC stand outs in the flanges (engine side and air inlet side), pressed in when moulded.
3 – Check that the OTA® box (metal box) contains the accessories in a plastic bag marked BMC.
4 – Then check that all distinctive elements are present in the OTA® box (together) with their respective BMC markings, as stated in points 1,2,3
